For Three Birds Renovations’ Eclectic Escape project, the result is a colourful, welcoming holiday home where the outdoor spaces matter just as much as the rooms inside. Set on the Central Coast of New South Wales, the transformation features the STILLA Sorrento Designer Studio and shows how extra space need not mean extending the main house. The project was featured in Australian House & Garden.
A Coastal Holiday Home Reimagined
After years of wear and significant storm damage, Three Birds Renovations transformed a family holiday home into a relaxed coastal retreat for entertaining and gathering. The outdoor spaces were central to the vision, an idea equally relevant to a New Zealand bach or family home.
Extending the Renovation Into the Garden
Rather than adding to the house, the team incorporated a separate Sorrento Cedar Designer Studio. Positioned in the landscaped garden alongside a deck, pergola and firepit, it forms part of the outdoor entertaining setting and creates a natural connection between home and garden.
The Sorrento Designer Studio: Style Meets Function
Crafted from Western Red Cedar, the Sorrento pairs natural timber with contemporary details including generous head height, aluminium and glass doors and windows, and integrated guttering. It provides a stylish, practical garden room that complements the coastal home.
Rather than feeling like an add-on, the shed became an integral part of the home’s layout and lifestyle.
A Colour Palette That Connects Everything
The Sorrento exterior was painted in Dulux Grey Master with crisp white trims, tying it into the property’s coastal palette. Matching finishes across a property can help a garden studio feel like a considered part of the home.
Inside the Garden Studio
Soft wall panelling, timber tones and a neutral palette create a comfortable interior. Cosy seating and simple styling make it a place to relax and catch up. The same studio could also serve as a home office, art studio, hobby room or multipurpose space.
A Garden Studio Designed for More Living
The renovation does not end at the back door. A separate garden room adds flexibility without changing the main house layout, whether on a suburban section or beside a coastal bach.
Featured in Australian House & Garden
The finished Eclectic Escape appeared in Australian House & Garden, highlighting its colourful coastal character and outdoor entertaining spaces. The Sorrento is part of that completed setting.
