If you run your own business, the government wants you to buy a Stilla studio now!

Anyone who runs a small business has less than a month left to buy a substantial asset – something for the business that costs up to $20,000 – and immediately claim a full tax write-off.

As the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) explains in this piece in the Small Business Newsroom on its website:

“The write-off threshold of $20,000 has been extended to 30 June 2018.

If you buy an asset and it costs less than $20,000, you can immediately deduct the business portion in your tax return. The $20,000 threshold applied from 12 May 2015 and will reduce to $1,000 from 1 July 2018.”

You don’t have to take our word for it, in fact we suggest you consult your accountant, but if they’re not sure you can point them to these instructions for applying the $20,000 instant asset write-off in the Tax Professionals section of the ATO site.

Why a Stilla studio?

Admittedly, we may have slightly interpreted what the government wants you to do, but it’s certainly giving small business owners the incentive to spend a bit before the end of the financial year.

Which does mean you’ll never have a better opportunity to boost the way you work with a stunning, self-contained workspace out the back of your home.

If you are in a position to spend several thousand dollars making sure your business is set up well – or taking it to the next level – there’s a very good chance that getting a studio is the best option.

Stilla studios have been carefully designed and manufactured to offer the sort of work-from-home environment you can’t get from taking over a room inside your house (assuming you have any room to spare).

Apart from the significant lifestyle advantages, you’ll want to have prospective clients and associates come over for meetings, because they’ll definitely be impressed to see a whole building dedicated to your business!

Who needs a stand-alone home office?

We know that working from home is an extremely attractive option for more and more Australians.

As we’ve noted previously, The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) survey Characteristics of Employment, Australia, August 2015, found that: “Almost a third (3.5 million) of all employed persons regularly worked from home in their main job or business”.

At least 20 per cent of the 3.5 million – or around 700,000 people – indicated that their home was the location of their primary workplace. And that was back in 2015. We suspect the figure has grown over the past couple of years.

If you run your own business or do freelance work, it might not make financial sense to do it any other way, as paying rent for even a small office space – along with a second lot of utility bills – is a very different proposition to being able to claim home-office expenses on your tax return.

For a lot of people, the biggest plus is the convenience, but that comes with a better work-life balance, less stress, greater flexibility, and – another big positive – no daily commute.

Just imagine physically (and mentally) going to work by taking a few steps out your back door and across your lovely garden, taking a proper lunch break by leaving the office (and potentially spending a bit more quality time with your loved ones), and completely closing the door behind you and ‘walking home’ at the end of the day.

It’s a bit like working from a room in the house, but better, and a bit like having a rented space around the corner at the local shops, but better!

What sets Stilla studios apart?

When our research and feedback indicated there was a growing demand for dedicated studios, we didn’t just make bigger sheds. We spent some time and effort figuring out what would make Stilla studios stand out.

Like all of our cedar sheds, our studios are 100 per cent termite-resistant. They’re constructed from treated pine framing and attractive, high-quality Western Red Cedar cladding.

They’re made in Australia for Australian weather conditions, including wind category ratings.

Our unique design and manufacturing process means that our studio kit comes with pre-fabricated panels, gables, and roof trusses so that they can be easily transported and assembled quickly.

Stilla cedar studios also come with fully-engineered plans and drawings that are ready to submit to your local council to streamline building approvals.

And we’ve built our studios with timber stud walls to make it as easy as possible for you to add internal walls and personalise your space just the way you want it. And who doesn’t want to personalise their workspace?
